Backlink - is a link inserted on one page that directs to another page. In SEO language, these are links that link directly to your site. They are also known as inbound links (IBL). The quantity and quality of your backlinks can help you rank higher in search engines such as Google search. Each link on a website or an article comes with an anchor text that a user can click on and it links to another web page.

Backlinks are essential for SEO. Inbound links, in a sense, are a “vote of confidence” between sites. They are one of the most important ranking criteria for search engines. If other sites redirect to your site as a source, the content there is valuable and responsive to your visitors’ needs. The total number of backlinks, especially high-quality backlinks, will help you beat your competitors in search engine rankings and significantly raise your domain authority. The use of links in a search engine algorithm is nothing new. Backlinks were the foundation of Google’s original algorithm (called “PageRank”). Although Google has made thousands of changes to its algorithm, backlinks remain key ranking factors.

Activities aimed at acquiring backlinks to your site are called link building. It is one of the primary tasks of specialists professionally engaged in positioning websites. The main difficulty is to find places where valuable links can be placed. One of the best practices when building your backlink profile is paying extra attention to the traffic and authority of the referring domains (you can check them in SEO tools like MOZ, or Ahrefs).
